All fingers and thumbs

By dudler
The silly part, this Sunday, is the rank optimism involved in hand-holding a camera at the sort of shutter speed I used here.

I'd recommend Buskers Night at the Bay Horse to anyone who is near enough to go along between 8 and 11 - you'll be even more welcome if you can play or sing...

Somewhere along the way, this chap showed how well the words of Amazing Grace fit to the tune of House of the Rising Sun. Even if the Devil started off with all the best tunes, he's not managed to keep them.

That is a very good image, considering the shutter speed 😊

And seeing as how Moira (mrswoollybill) has challenged me to post some of my shots of the quad-bike jumping we both shot last Sunday, three more versions...

A real element of silliness there.

And after three hours in the pub, the lead shot shows how your eye and brain sees the musician...
As for the quad bikes, best not to have spent three hours in the local before performing.Wink
And you'd had how many pints before steadying the camera? Grin

Shades of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. Scope for endless amusement and some seriously annoying earworms.
Quad bikes - well I profited from the experience of the first performance. I didn't keep any of my shots from that, but it sorted out what I needed to do for the second session. Timing for the top of the jump was crucial I think (particularly as that's where I focused for). I may download yours and have a sneaky look at the Exif some time... Wink

The aperture value looks a bit unusual for this type of shot John.
Well held, I'm thinking camera in one hand, pint in the other Smile

your attempt is unusual, i have never tried to break the rule of thumb by such a huge have done very well, can you explain a bit of your technique to break it...

The aim was to get some of the movement of fingers while playing the guitar. Hence stopping down to allow this, and also to keep a good deal of background detail that was sharp (that's my excuse for not just dropping the ISO. Two pints were involved...)

I think I was resting my elbows on the table, and I was certainly sitting down.

My thinking was that any blur from camera movement would be limited compared with the movement of fingers.

Music is HERE on Facebook. I have discovered there's a video button on my camera...

Whatever the situation whatever the mood, just carry on strumming. And if you can't strum, then photograph someone who can.

If you use a table it can't strictly be called as hand held, but your attempt is praiseworthy, maximum shake of camera happen when i press the shutter, if i use high speed continuous shooting option of the camera, it can reduce this shake from the second shot and holding my breath i have broken the rule of thumb by 4 stop, this technique i use for strictly hand helding shots mainly in low light and when i don't have any other option at that time...

A terrific set and the music must have been fun, but the quad bikes look frightening!

It is a matter of perspective.
Where do the doors fit in?
Not just on the walls!!!
I think I discovered the link between the main pic and version 3. Jim Morrison sung "Roll baby Roll...all night long'
