All Saints Day

By bliba
n order to remember the saints and martyrs, annual observances were introduced in the East as early as the 4th century (always on their days of dying). But as time went by, it seemed impossible to dedicate a day of remembrance to each of the saints, All Saints were made a feast.1 It counts the idea that we are all united to the saints in the communion of the Church.2

Since the beginning of the 4th century, the All Saints Day celebration in the Eastern Church is six days after the Pentecost holidays. For the western church, the word of the pope counted Boniface IV. He consecrated the Roman pantheon temple of pagan times in 609 to a church with holy relics and insisted on the annual celebration on the Friday after Easter.

Over a hundred years later, during the dedication of a chapel of St. Peter's, Pope Gregory III. the holiday for Rome on the 1st of November. This date was taken over by the Western Church in the coming decades. Ultimately, in 865, Pope Gregory IV decided that All Saints' Day commemoration will be held jointly and annually for the faithful of the Western Church on 1 November.

In the meantime, All Saints' Day is not just a church holiday, but also a legal holiday of the Christian church almost throughout Europe.
