Alport Approach

By AntHolloway
Had a day exploring in the Peaks, ticking Alport Castles off the list of places to visit. It is about 1 hours trek uphill from the Derwent Dam car parks and this is the first view you get of 'The Tower'. It is the largest part of the material that fell away during a land slip.

As the clouds were moving through it was just a matter of waiting till the tower was illuminated whilst the foreground was in shade.

For anyone else thinking of visiting, it is a peat bog area so there were swarms of midges, attracted to camera gear it seemed, so I have a nice collection of bites :-(

Three images merged in Photomatix, ISO 200, f/9, 1/800, 1/200, 1/50s.
