Also Ann, his wife

By mrswoolybill
Continuing a little series from the graveyard at Tynemouth Priory, perched on a headland overlooking the North Sea.
Sandstone is the local material, but seems an unfortunate choice here as it is extremely vulnerable to erosion by salt sea air.
What fascinates me is the way that certain important words will resist the elements. A name, a detail...
Thanks for looking,
Moira

Man does not control his afterlife.
His woman does that for him.

I find graveyards fascinating and peaceful places. This one perhaps is rather windswept compared to many but for those laid to rest it will not matter. A beautiful composition here Moira.

Important words were generally carved much deeper than the others so they remain readable for much longer.

I am investigating my Family Tree, with the result I visit quite a few graveyards. You find today you can purchase a CD of most of them, which shows the inscription and often a photograph of every stone on the site. Takes the pleasure out of making a new discovery. Anyway, back to your image. Nicely composed with the foreground interesting and still showing your admiral's monument in the background. Great mono tones as usual.

A fine follow-up to your previous, Moira, a bit more open in the centre to wander through 😃👍

A very interesting place, a cemetery. Not many people have a headstone any more. Another thing of the past.
