Amberley Museum

By SlowSong
We took a trip to Amberley Museum yesterday, in West Sussex. We didn't really know what to expect, but if you're interested in old technology of every kind, this is the place for you. There's tons of stuff there, all perfectly preserved in an authentic layer of dust. Exhibits inside and out, all sorts of arts a crafts, and a neat little train that runs from top to bottom of the site.

These are shots from inside the TV, radio and media hut (called the Wireless Exhibition). If you're a fan of electrical goods this is the place for you. I've never seen so much stuff in my life. If you have a valve fetish, I doubt you'll be able to drag yourself out for a good few hours, (v2 is just a very small selection).

Quite difficult to take photos as everythng is so cluttered and stored in dark huts, but just a taster.

I would encourage you to go if you are at all interested in the way we lived in the past.
I may put up some more shots later in the week.

Interesting set, Chris. They remind me of when my father in law had his own electrical repair shop. He never threw anything away and some of the old sets and things would go back to the fifties.Smile

Fascinating set, love the old b&w televisions, our first was one of those in early 60s 🙂

It looks an interesting place to visit with lots of memories from the past. You have managed to convey in few images quite a selection of old technology.

Looks and sounds a great place to visit, Chris, just my cup of tea, could spend hours there! We had a floor standing lamp with a shade just like that in the lead image! 😀

This is a good set from your location.
My favourite is V1 with all that stuff on the wall and the glow that light gives. Love the kettle !!
That's the one my UA is for.

Great set of photos. My late father who was a `Radio Ham` all his adult life, would have appreciated the QSL cards and and valves.

Please put up more shots! For a start I'll take 'The Home Broadcaster' especially as it is 'novel, exciting, useful' and, at 21 shillings, an absolute snip. My word but that's the very thing for me! My dad, if he was still here, would take the valves (oh he did like a nice valve did Eric) and I'll have a rummage around for a 'New Queen' television set. Black and white, Bakelite controls, woven speaker grill and consumed valves at a rate which must have kept the valve magnates of the day in Bentleys. I should have gone to bed by now but stumbled across this and have lingered over it for longer than I should. You can't have my last Rolo, I ate it 50 years ago but you can have my last gong! Yes a very interesting place and not where you would expect to find such a museum. A good place to stop if walking the South Downs Way. When I went with my children they didn't know how to use the old rotary phones!!
