American Bald Eagle

By BerthaDBluze
Another bald eagle from one of my hikes. This one was taken on a hike south of Olympia, Washington, USA. It was a wonderful day...a bit cold, but a beautiful blue sky and the sun was out. I never managed to sneak as close to this one as I wanted before it flew away.

f4.5 1/250 sec

I was using a 2X TC on this one. I still had to crop it though. I also cloned out an annoying branch in the top left side.

I just noticed some weird shape on the left side of the bird just above the branch. Anyone know what would cause that? I don't see it in the original image.

Was sneaking up on birds myself again today. You sure got this one! The weird shapes might be clone tracks from getting rid of the branch. I often have some success using the Blur handtool to get rid of them.

Thanks Pauline, Jennnn, Greg, Phil, and Verne! Smile

Verne: Watch out...that sneaking up on birds can get addicting! Smile I wish it was from the branch cloning, but the branch cloning was upper left, and the weird shape is along the bird down by the branch. I do now see a dark spot upper left that's probably from my cloning attempt though. Smile

Exccellent shot Bertha. Makes a change to see the back of one of these. it really shows the plumage. It does look to me as though you have done a little cloning around the branch even though you say it was only upper left. I am new to this as well but if I do any cloning I always use about between 2 - 5% of feathering to try and blend it in. Hope this helps.

Thanks Tonymarq, Cesie, Marian, shane, Paul, Marc, Laura, Pauline, and Doug! Smile

Paul and Laura: I guess I must have been cloning something then...don't know what it was cause I don't see anything on the original...oh well, I'll chock it up to my being daft! Smile

Doug: You're lucky! We have a few around here, but I have to go hunt around to find them...and then I feel extremely lucky if I actually see one! Smile

Such wonderful feather detail ... tho I too would have been tempted to use levels a little just to add a little contrast and darken slightly. Beautiful all the same and an excellent capture. I don't see any "odd" shape .... looks just fine to me! But you know these birds better than I. Take care, Click*

Thank-you Karen! I appreciate the suggestion on the levels...I'm a dolt when it comes to PS, I'm trying to learn it! Smile
