An Eccentric Monument to a Horse

Farley Mount, dating from the 1730s, west of Winchester, Hampshire, last September.

Taken whilst walking second half of the old pilgrim's route, The Clarendon Way, from Salisbury to Winchester cathedrals, I stopped off here for a much needed rest.

The steep rather overgrown steps I used as a foreground is hardly used, a better (but less interesting) path now runs up to it on the right. The folly is highly whitewashed and has an informative old plaque inside.

You should take a drive up there when in the area (as I know you do) - it's a nature reserve with great views and carpark quite close.
