Fascinating photograph and interesting pair. Just what is that Group Captain discussing with the Flight Sargent?

I always wonder how they decide what medals they will sport. The Group Captain has the three common WW I ribbons that most combatants received but doesn't have the 1914 clasp so he was not part of the BEF in Aug-Nov 1914. However, the two ribbons above the trio are interesting: the white/purple/white looks like a Military Cross while the blue/white/red/etc. looks like the Military Medal. The first was awarded to officers, the second to other-ranks. Both were for bravery. If those are correct then the owner has an interesting tale to tell. Interesting that while he is sporting "wings", non of the medals are for action in the air. The F/Sgt seems to be sporting only the George VI Coronation Medal. Obviously he managed to miss WW I but joined the RAF in peace time.
