Award Shortlist

And so we say farewell .......

By Ericsamson
... only this time not to Balham (see old Peter Sellers sketch ... I think!)
This is taken from the ferry as it leaves Brownsea Island in Pool Harbour for Sandbanks which is so posh I couldn't even afford a shed there. 🥴

Many thanks for the witty and generous responses to 'Lying down on the job' and I should like to stress that no Gwendoline Fondants were harmed in the creation of that image. My particular thanks to Colleen for her much appreciated award. PM to follow!

The ferry was in the expert hands of Rear Admiral Roland 'Rolly' Bottom (Rtd), sometime doyen of Prudhoe high society and so often the willing and grateful subject of Mrs Moira Woollybottom's artistic interpretations of the Admirable Rear.

Best wishes to all ... and apologies to Moira ... Graham. 😀

I'm married to a Rear Admiral - how did I manage to overlook the photographic potential of that for nigh on half a century??

Wonderful narrative as usual Graham. The island, apart from BPs scout movement, also produces BPs largest
quantity of oil in the UK. Not a lot of people know that.

Bal-Ham - Gateway to the South!

Yes, Peter Sellers, scripted by Muir and Norden. Mr Norden included it in his 3-hour interview 'A Taste of Funny' a few years ago. I may have recorded it, entirely for personal purposes, because it's wonderful. So many gems: another is Florence Desmond's ditty about air raid shelters, 'The Deepest Shelter in Town' (which I recommend most highly to coneisseurs of double entendre style smut).

Thank you Geoff and John for confirmation and to John for pointing me in the direction of more double entendre ridden smut which will help me with my PhD thesis on the 'Language, Semantics and Semiotics of Smut in a Post Modern Cultural Context.'

The same radio programme also revealed the deep and dark secret within the Glums: but maybe I shouldn't say anything about that AT ALL.
23 Apr 2020 12:34PM
Ah, now then, would that be the 'deep and dark secret'? The one in which Eth turns out to be a ladyboy from Walsall with a concrete hippo fetish? (Allegedly! 🥴 )
Have I recommended the episode of 'Mark Steel's in Town' in which he visits Walsall? It's out there on the BBC Sounds App along with all the others! Works for me! "Many times, many, many times." With apologies to Betty Marsden!

Oh, to be on a boat sailing off somewhere, especially in this gorgeous weather we're having 🚢😎 I remember passing by here when I sailed from Poole to Jersey back in June 2018. It was interesting to watch on TV a few weeks back the short series 'Harry Redknapp's Sandbanks Summer', think that's as near I'll get to stopping off there! 👍
Take care and stay safe,
Trev 😀

I wish I'd known in advance that Mark Steel was going ot be in town... And yes, it's brilliant.

The deep and dark secret, Mr Norden said, is an essential part of every sitcom: there has to be something that is never stated, but which powers a lot of the comedy. In the case of Ron and Eth, it's all in the way that June Whitfiled played Eth - as a woman who was (I quote approximately) 'just about as horny as it was possible to get' - listen to them again in this light...
