And The Temperature Is...............

By chase
I have had this glass thing for ages but never known how to interpret the little floaty things inside, something to do with the weather and temperatures I think Blush
Still, it's pretty but very fragile.

The magnifying glass just put a different perspective on things Wink

A 3 frame HDR, combined in lightroom, finished in Photoshop.
Lit by diffused daylight camera left.

Thanks for dropping by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.
Janet xx

I've tried a couple of times to photograph my Galileo thermometer without success.
Nicely done Janet.

Best you are moving to a warehouse--or a loft for display and storage--fascinating possessions!

I used to have one of those floaty things when they were all the rage. Nice to see one again. Smile

All the floaters have little numbers on them. The temperature is either the lowest one at the top, or the highest one at the bottom. Or, very possibly, somewhere roughly between them...

Thanks John, now where did I put that magnifying glass, I will need it to see the teeny numbers Wink

Many thanks everyone.

An intriguing arrangement of disparate objects. I hope the Galileo thermometer survives the move Janet. I once gave one to my brother as a Christmas present - I've no idea what's happened to it now, but he has moved twice.

We've got one of those, so I may give it a go of trying to photograph it.

I think you've got it upside down, Janet. The spiky end sits in a purpose-made foot.

Another lovely set up Jan and so clever to use the magnifying glass to create a focal point. We too have a couple of those thermometer jobbies. Mrs U loves them.

I have one of these! A bit bigger, as mine has 7 glass ball thingies. I'd thought about doing something with it, and took a close-up, and using Hue & Saturation, changed the colours to produce 6 images, which I put together as a montage and uploaded to EPZ back in 2013 - you can see it here at And now for something completely different!. Love your effort here, Janet, with the magnifying glass 😃👍

Clear as mud 😅

I had one, I threw it away some years ago, didn't know how to read it and was scared it might break and make a right mess
...and I still have a magnifying glass , but I like yours much better Janet.
Do you think we might be sisters?

Any how....would you like to buy a broken barometer?

No Pressure 😉
