It's a different world, isn't it...
I did the vote of thanks at the talk on Norway on Monday. I recalled that when I was working the office divided into two camps. Most of the staff spent their summer holiday beside a pool at a hotel on the Med. They used to send postcards with a picture of the hotel, I don't think they ever moved outside it.
Then there was Pauline the typist and me. Pauline's dream was Antarctica, mine is Siberia and Lake Baikal in winter.
This is my sort of holiday.

People often forget that the land of the midnight sun is, in winter, the land of no sun at all. It never makes it above the horizon, and this image from Hammerfest shows how little light there is in the middle of the day. This must have been a bright day, Ann!
(btw..you really must get back to Honningsvåg and Lofoten in summer)

Thanks Malc - the light is extraordinary. We loved it and Christopher wants to get back to Tromso again this winter. Not sure whether we will or not, but we had such a great time there.
