Arsenic and Old Lace

By chase
I had a great suggestion from Kate for an Arsenic and Old Lace image, thanks Kate, great suggestion.

Thinking cap to hand, I raided my 'collections' and came up with this for starters.

In times past, ribbed bottles were produced for folk with either poor sight or lack of lighting to their homes so that they could feel the ribbing and know the bottle contained a nasty of some sort.

The lace you see here is from the 1900s and the skull I found on the roadside some time ago.

I wanted some light inside the skull, especially to light up the eye sockets so I put a small handheld LED light inside, it didn't work with a torch, I liked the result it gave, lighting up the bottles too.
Taken in a dark room against my dark bg, with the light as you see it here.

So Kate, this one is especially for you Smile

Thanks for getting here.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

That's actually a good idea. Come up with a title and make it happen. You've done that so well. Informative too, re: the ridged bottles. Your skeleton was a great find for you. Such a treasure for many images. Your work is very inspiring.

Beautifully done Janet, and you certainly rose to the occasion with this one👍!! I like the light shining through the skull onto the bottles and lace, showing off the details nicely. Once again, I salute your wonderful creativity.....your images are a joy to view!

Lace from 1900? Still wearing your great-grandma's old hand-me-down underwear, eh?Wink

The set-up works very well, the light in the skull and the small puff of smoke excellent details. Would it work as a different version if the light in the skull was reduced a bit, making the whole scene even more mystical?

I can remember we had bottles like this when I were a lad - the ribbed bit, that is, we didn't keep arsenic! 😁 A wonderful arrangement and lighting, excellent work, Janet 😃👍

A clever idea to light up the interior of the skull

Glad I had an award left for you Janet.
I reckoned the skull might be included in this idea.
I like the light within and looking forward to darker versions.
I hadn't realised the theory behind the ridged bottles.
Great story telling.

Maybe a green light in the skull to match the toxicity of the bottles 🤢 😁

Another variation there Chris but I don't have a green light Sad What I do have is a big box of Christmas chocolates, I could use one of the wrappers in front of the light, oh dear, that means I have to open the box, what a shame Wink Wink

Wonderfully grim image and super title. Love the lighting, and the fumes from the poisonous green bottles. Great arrangement well photographed. Let's see the variations!
