Ashlett tidal mill

By esoxlucius
Ashlett Mill was built in 1816 and has a mansard roof, there is also a sailing club and a pub.
At the turn of the last century, large ships used to come in to embark grain or flour, and a quay was completed in 1887 to celebrate Queen VictoriaÂ’s Golden Jubilee. AshlettÂ’s earliest reference to a mill dates back to 1241. As well as the mill 2 Salterns produced salt here that was shipped from the quay.

Not very busy even in the summer. However the old Calshot power station is being developed for 1300 new homes and that is a nice walk along the shoreline. So in a few years Ashlett will get pretty busy I feel. Shame as it’s nice when it’s quiet.
