Astoria Column, Oregon USA

Astoria is America's oldest settlement west of the Rocky Mountain (1811) The Columbia River Bar was rated the most dangerous crossing in the world and called the graveyard of the Pacific. This column is magnificently situated high above the town, with 360* views over the huge Columbia River and surrounding countryside. It has paintings of significant events for the town over the years from early 1800's.i cant describe how fanastic it is up there and the views, but can show you the column.

I've heard of this.
By a strange coincidence, our local County Councillor (just re-elected this week) and his family are friends and his wife comes from Oregon. They visited yesterday for coffee.

This is a wonderful journey, Janet. You won't have much left on your bucket list.
