Aurora Over Findhorn Beach Huts

By hwatt
Findhorn Bay, Moray, Scotland

To be quite honest I am not really a massive fan of auroras at least not photographically, I prefer the videos I have seen of them with their amazing flickering shimmering movement and ever changing patterns and I tend to feel that motion is very key to my enjoyment of them. Never-the-less a whopping great aurora prediction peaking high into the red zone certainly piqued my interest and with just marginal cloud and the dark space on offer at Findhorn I duly arrived and captured the sickly green and red light of a reasonably bright though static aurora in the North sky with Burghead and the Findhorn beach huts also present in the frame with, yes a few other photographers present too.

Fuji GFX50S, GF 32-64mm Zoom, f/4 at 12 seconds, ISO 3200.

This shot grows on me. It's not the aurora so much as the lovely combination of stars, sky, and detail in the beach huts.

Like so many of your pictures, so restrained that the art and the craft are hidden.
