Great shot, both versions. I prefer the b&w version myself. Background is great... and the mans expression, really tells a story.

Excellent. Mark.

I love the composition of the rugged hardened gent against the out of focus bg of the place of such atrocity. You can almost see suffering in his face!

again the sentiment of yesterday remains.. I like the colour version.. I think for the B&W I wuld have tried a heavier contrast but thats maybe just my taste. but I think it might lift the face out of the image..

I prefer the colour version but i think both are great, for me They convey two different messages in colour i think it gives a really human feel to the place and a feeling of now. The B/W i feel it gives a very Bleak cold feel to the whole picture but feel its a feeling of along time ago. His look in Both say He will NEVER forget.
Amazing to get all that from 1 image.

The background isn't strong enough to give it a sense of place - I wouldn't have known where it was taken without the caption.

Looks good. I think the colour version has a little more to it, though I do like the monotone. I think the face could do with some heightening of contrast to get a bit more white in the eyes and depth of shadow in the wrinkles. Probably need some real work with layers to get just the right balance so as not to over-darken the clothing or bleach out the background.
