Autumn Shadows at the Mausoleum.

By Tooma
"Hamilton Mausoleum is one of Lanarkshire'™s most iconic buildings and is seen by thousands of motorists every day travelling along the M74 motorway.
The building stands to an overall height of about 123 feet (37m) and occupies a site some 650 feet (200m) north of the former Hamilton Palace. The building was begun in 1842 by architect David Hamilton and was completed 5 years after the death of the 10th Duke by architects David Bryce and Alexander Richie in 1858. The Duke was interred in the mausoleum alongside many of his family.
The building is now the solitary remaining testament to the colossal scale and grandeur of the buildings which once stood in the Hamilton Low Parks. The coffins of the 10th Duke and his ancestors were later re-buried in Hamilton's Bent Cemetery due to the subsidence and flooding that affected the mausoleum.".

Immediately behind me is the Hamilton Palace Retail Park, sited on land which was once part of the palace grounds. I do not know if it is significant or not, but the layout of the retail park looks like a giant sun-dial when viewed from above.

A well composed and taken shot and very interesting narrative, Tom.
How things change!!

Lovely structural symmetry countered by the asymmetry created by those nicely defined shadows. As always your commentaries are a joy and not least, on this occasion, for the final sentence in which you tell us about the retail park squatting on the site of former grandeur. SmileSmileSmile

Great lead-in plus enjoyed the history of the place. Now that's a retail park I might be tempted to visit with that on its doorstep!
