Autumnal cruising

By tracey70
This is another image I captured whilst walking along the local canal. I loved the colours of the trees and the reflections created in the water. I didn't have any time to stage this picture, it was a case of point and shoot. However any criticism is greatfully recieved.

Super capture, you have and eye for a pic.
I think it might be an improvement to crop off the foreground as far as the first bush. that would bring the boat away from being almost dead centre. It would keep most of the path and all of the beauty of the picture.

I've done a mod where i cropped from the bottom and right hand side. Plus a wee play with contrast and darkened the highlights. You may see this as an improvement, however we all see things our own way.

Its a very nice scene that youve pointed at!

Ive uploaded 2 mods, - basically increased contrast similar to Ian, - and what this means is that the areas that are darkest in the image, are made to be equal to pure black. You will notice that compared to your original, they are :heavier:, in the sense that yours is light, or flatter, in comparison. Nothing youve dome wrong, its common in a point and shoot camera making a good average decision for the different types of light.

Ive uploaded 2 mods, one is as youe shot it, mod2 is different. As an experiment, which of the two look better to you? Better means more attractive as a print.

Sorry, not sure how this works. I put my comment in the mod I loaded. It's a good scene but it needs more contrast and colour to bring out the best in it. I also did a crop of right side and bottom. It looks like the Brecon Canal - is it?

Thanks all for the modifications. You are right the original does need some post shoot alterations, it looks a lot sharper and somehow more focused once you guys have had a play with it.

Willie,I will take a look at the link this evening as I think it is well worthwhile having some sort of tool to allow post shooting alterations. Would you recommend any in particular??

The canal is the Shropshire Union canal and although slightly muddy along the tow path, its beautiful at this time of the year.

Thank you all once again,
Tracey
