Baby It's Cold Outside

By chase
It's sadly been a while since I posted an image, due to serious flooding and lots of power cuts here.
No risk to life but a scary situation.

This is my Granddaughter, Paige. An image I have wanted to do for a while,I persuaded her yesterday to get in front of the camera as I was helping her with a project for her looming GCSE in Photography.
Lit by one soft box camera leftish.
Converted to mono in silver effex.

Couldn't make my mind up whether to go really high key and a little softer or not so this is where I landed.

Thanks for dropping by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.
Janet xx

A beautiful high key portrait, Janet, perfect just as it is! Like the tight crop too 👍

She certainly has grown up since I last saw an image of her. Like the eye connection and eye lashes too.

Good to see you back. You really do have some appalling luck, but you've had your quota now Wink

Ditto the above. She was but a bairn last time she appeared here. Nice to hear she is following in your footsteps photography-wise. She is so lucky. She will get some expert help!

Lovely image, lovely story. Bill's niece did GCSE Photography maybe twelve years ago, I was horrified by how narrow her studies were. They had her stitching panos within weeks, but very little on settings, exposure. It was all special effects. I hope this is much more constructive.
Now the important question - do we get to see Paige's portrait of you?

Quote: do we get to see Paige's portrait of you?

Errr...nope...lol not until my facial scars have healed a little more at least.

I couldn't believe what she had to do for her exam, a timeline from 1910-2010. I had 4 16 year olds to cope with all day but they were really good 'models' tbh.
My house is now a tip !
No camera on loan,I had to start from scratch with settings etc but did manage to get her to 'move yer feet' Wink
I did nothing with the images she took or the lighting and poses, just converted them to jpegs and put them on a disc, she now has 2x5 hour sessions to do her manipulations. It counts for 60% of her mark too !!!!

I must add...I did take this one and a couple of others of her.

Thanks all
Janet xx
As they would say up north, you done her proud lass!

Stunning high key image - with the dark pupils and lashes for contrast.

Great to have your UA Chris, many thanks.

Trials are not quite over, if anyone watched Country File last night, the flooded farm is just up the road from me Sad
Thanks all.

Cheers for having a go at a mod John,I did wobble at the thought of taking it further into the realms of high key, it just wouldn't go Sad

Hi Brian, thank you for your valued award, lovely to receive.
I am just about sorted now but the danger of being flooded as that farmer experienced was far, far too close for comfort. That water is gonna take forever and a day to recede, the road will be closed and damaged for a long time.

Alan, thank you for your UA, great compliments guys, Paige will be chuffed to bits.
