What a picture . What a superb natural frame for the balloons . Pity they were so blue but I suppose that was because they were in shade ?

It was one of the first pictures I had taken on an EOS 100 I had been testing back in 1991. I hadn't discovered that Fuji Velvia was better rated at ISO32 and not it's indicated ISO50. Five rolls of film with a lovely underexposed blue hue... Doh! I'll give it a 2 out of 5!

ISO32. Is that right ? I heard somewhere else that 64 was better, but my Velvia shots always look underexposed I suppose setting a lower ISO will give it more light.
What lens was it ?

Not a bad shot Pete, I like the kinda quirky angle it seems to have, round and slanted - works well with the baloons.
As for rating Velvia at ISO 32 - dont always agree - yeah it'll give you more colour saturation and contrast, but come-on if Velvia isnt contrasty enough for you alredy....!
Actually I think its personal opinion - people should try adjusting the ISO (or just deliberately over/under exposing 1/3 stop) out with a few rolls and see what works for them and their type of photography.
Dave.

It was the 15mm Canon wide-angle. 64 ISO would normally be better to underexpose slightly and increase saturation but in Velvia's case, as David pointed out Velvia is contrasty enough so rating at ISO32 reduces this a little making the trannies sparkle. Well it does on my tatty old EOS 100!

I like this a lot, don't know if it's the use of a wie angle lens but the leaning towards the centre of the pic draws the eye towards the balloons and the curved landscape frames it well. Nice pic

Pete...this appears slightly underexposed, i was told to overexpose by 1 stop to keep my whites white, is this the result of using velvia? is 32asa or 40 asa the correct rating for 50 asa velvia film?

i do like the composure though.

Must make you smile despite the difficulties.

How interesting - so this is indeed where it all started. This is such a good site you must be very proud of your baby (well not so much a baby I guess anymore) - and what is wrong with a seven year click (as opposed to itch).

Cheers

I don't know why but I just had an urge to find out who posted the first ever pickie on EPZ - I suppose it had to be a staff member. Strangely it was 582 days before anyone posted a comment about it! I suppose the site was not available until September 2002.

There are other photo sharing sites out there (which I won't mention) but I always come back to EPZ as my favourite. Keep up the great work!

Terrific use of the fisheye lens, Pete. Makes me wonder why we don't see more evidence of its use here on EPZ. I think I might have preferred to see a universally blue sky throughout rather than the flash of sun light at the top left of the frame...I think....

No favourites. I just scanned a few film pics in and some shot on budget digital to start the gallery off. They were picked for variety to give people an idea for uploads. They're quite embarrassing now but I won't take them away.
