Excellent Sarah, great timing to capture the flame/smoke. Looks like Royal Horse Artillery

nearly impossible to get the best moment even in burst mode, as its 1 fraction of a second when its like this, glad you got some good shots sarah, I sat next to this canon during the battle when it went off, with ear protectors in and outside the danger cone obviously, It knocked me back against the tree the shockwave was so strong. Its not used a lot due to the cost of firing and im told unlike the normal 3LB canons used a shotgun licence is not enough for this 6lb gun and lots of permits needed, 37 quid just gone up in smoke paid btw.
Hopefully next year you will get a full day and if I am around will arrange some sessions for you.

Perfectly timed, Sarah! Smile It's difficult enough to photograph these as, although you're expecting the loud bang, when it does you tend to jerk the camera and ruin the shot! Sad This just has to merit my UA...Wink

Quote:Apparently it costs 37 a time to shoot this - the cannon not the photo

But charging 37 for say 1/1000th of a second exposure you could get even richer more quickly Smile

Amazing to capture the moment of explosion, Sarah, but the imagery of the people at that moment is classic. A wonderful photo!!!!!!!

Not sure if you noticed but when I shared this it went viral in the community, 1 share was seen by hundreds alone and its been shared dozens of times, quite a talking point as a lot of intrest in the canon , well done

Well caught, the loudest thing on the battlefield, wonder what 60 of them sounded like, and the smoke from each firing, phew, great shot, regards
