Basilica Cistern

By justbrock
Thought to be built around 532AD the Basilica Cistern was believed to be used to hold water for the Great Palace and surrounding buildings in Istanbul. The Cistern was rediscovered around 1545 when an antiquities scholar heard stories of people catching fish through holes in the floor of their houses, easily plausible as even today you can see the many carp and other fish swimming away in the Cistern.
Details: Handheld, 10mm, f/4 @ 1.3sec, ISO1600.
