Basilica dei Santi Maria e Donato

Basilica dei Santi Maria e Donato was founded in the 7th Century and dedicated to the Virgin. The church was re-dedicated when the body of St Donatus was brought here from Cephalonia in 1125. This date also seems to be when the church was built in its current form, with the work completed in 1141, a date which is recorded on the mosaic floor. Baroque redecoration followed in the 18th century and then restoration in 1858-73 returned the church to its previous appearance. The lovely two-tiered blind arcaded apse can be seen facing to the right.

I think I am lost here Trev, is this the church opposite the blue glass? and taken from the bridge...Oh what fun to be exploring all these places....another wonderful image of Morano perfectly shot...(see you have your name changed to Carol...naw..does not suit you!)

Hi Trev, another superb shot, the Basilica beautifully captured and presented in such fine detail, even in the more heavily shadowed areas. What a great time you have had there, capturing all these wonderful shots.

That tree jumps out, green in a world of baked stonework. This says sun and light, evrything that we are missing at the moment.

What a beautiful building and beautifully photographed too. Just a couple of small things I would've done differently if it were mine. I like the inclusion of the waterfront to show it's proximity to the water's edge but would like to have seen just a tiny bit more to get a whole boat in shot. Also, I would've cloned the lowest set of jagged shadows on the left hand side as I find them a little distracting. Just my opinion of course Smile

Sorry for some reason missed this one Trev or is it Carol now ? LOL. What a beautiful buiding and you really excel at these . Tending to agree with Sue R about the F/G which looks slightly messy with nothing of real interest to actually look at there. Agree with her also about the shadows although I possibly would have missed them also myself until after I had put it up on here .... Phil
