Baslow Gateway 2

By Tony_W
A slightly different viewpoint of the scene posted yesterday.
This is my first proper attempt at HDR so any comments or criticisms welcome.
I've posted a second version which has been edited with non HDR methods.

Thank you for looking and please let me know what you think.

Nice composition and colours and you've done a good job with the tone mapping.. I actually prefer the non-HDR - I think tonemapping often squashes contrast too much resulting in the loss of natural shadows. Just my opinion.

Both versions have their good points, I think #2 is a little stronger for this image as it emphasises the diagonals. Great capture either way...

V2 FOR ME. when conditions are as good as this with nice directional lighting, HDR seldom provides the same mood on a landscape. V1 is still very nice , your tone mapping is pretty good , the coposition has a lovely s shape running thro the image which always works well.

No need to apologise Katy, I like version 2 better myself. I think the image has greater depth to it and a stronger, bolder feel.
I was really just trying out this new fangled HDR business with a couple of trial applications I'd downloaded.
Having spent a bob or two on ND grads etc I'm happy in the knowledge that HDR hasn't rendered them obsolete.
I think I'll have a bit more of an experiment but both feet still in the 'traditional' camp at the moment.
Thanks to all for the comments and votes, always appreciated.

I like v1 for the detail its brought out but v2 for the depth of colour so if you chucked them in a pot and scrambled them up then you would have a stunning image...Smile (Not that there's anything wrong with this one.....Smile )

To me the non HDR is the stronger shot. It's got more depth and colour to it. I'm sure HDR has its place but I don't think it can outscore a well taken, well exposed shot just yet!

I think V1 with the treatment looks less focused, so V2 for me. The colour looks better in V2 as well. Trish
