Beach Loungers

By CathyI
These wicker beach loungers are an essential feature of German beaches - far better than deckchairs, they keep the sea breeze off and offer safe places to put your stuff and - most importantly - your drinks!

As I'd never seen them before coming to Germany, I've always had a bit of thing about them - I think they're very cool and if we manage to find a flat with a big enough balcony/terrace, I'm definitely going to get one!

They are also very photogenic, especially when combined with beautiful evening light such as here on the beach at Norddorf on the North Sea island of Amrum.

By the way: I'm "member of the week" this week, so if you fancy asking me anything, feel free to do so here ! Smile

Technical details:
Exposure: ISO 200, 1/60th sec. @f8 (tripod/cable release used)
PS Elements: brightness/contrast, saturation and levels adjusted; slight crop, distracting sign/marker cloned out.

Hiya neighbour!

They certainly do make a good subject. I don't know whether you can get BBC4 over there but Al Murray recently did an excellent two-part series about Germany. These wicker beach-chairs were featured.

I think you can, but only on satellite - which I unfortunately don't currently have... Shame, but perhaps it'll be out on DVD sometime!

This is a very un-usual photograph which I like very much. I love the evening tones & the slightly geometric shapes.

Switzerland is soo much more civilized. Tongue I get a whole bunch of UK channels as part of my basic cable subscription... Wink

It wouldn't surprise me though if the reason I don't is because my landlord hasn't set up anything but the cheapest package... He's a bit like that!
