Beach near Arisaig, Lochaber, looking to Inner Hebrides

By iaincats
I liked the light on the beach but could not fit this is with the sunset over the Small Isles (Inner Hebrides) without going Portrait. I'd tried an ND shot but that was a disaster as the seaweed was all over the place!!! Be interested to hear feedback on this shot, my best one from last week.

Looks ok to me.

Ive tried a mod that brighter in the lower half, and cropped a little from the bottom.

I lifted the foreground, boosted the contrast in the sea and sky, then lightened the whole image a touch. all usibng Curves adjustments.

A perfectly good image of it's type. To me, therein lies the problem, it conforms very firmly to a type with nothing to lift it above a good example. As an old PAGB judge, I've seen hundreds much like this and something to make an image stand out is advisable.

Fitting in sky and foreground may require a lower viewpoint - this is where Benbo tripods, with hteir waterproof bottom leg sections, can really come into their own!

However, I'm guessing that you might be short of interest (and light) if the shot embraced too much to either side.

This kind of shot reminds me that I ought to pack one or two graduated filters for my holiday - less trendy than big stoppers, but very useful for some landscapes!
