Beacon of Excellence!

By Ericsamson
I recall a time, not so very long ago, when it was fashionable in government, administrative, and managerial circles to bang on about 'beacons of excellence'. In the face of such egregious twaddle my cynical flippancy kicks in before I go into a voluntary coma. However, as we made for the National Gallery last Saturday I had an epiphany (embarrassing in public but one tries to style these things out). This remarkable gentleman embodied the very essence of that hitherto ridiculous notion and demonstrated what a beacon of excellence really is. Plenty of umpah umpah but naturally reticent about sticking it up one's jumper. Just as well. The sign by his right foot declares his act to be a 'Tribute to the Gracious Memory of Queen Elizabeth II'. Happy and glorious stuff indeed!
Many thanks for the very kind responses to 'Lattice Pray' and especial thanks to Colin for his award. PM on its way ... honest guv!

He’s been at the methylated spirits again!! ‘Ooooh mama he’s. too hot to handle’ sort of music. Looks like he too will have an epiphany when the bottom brass curve heats up and scorches his trousers! Sort of Hendrix with a Tuba style visual.

I photographed a piper in Edinburgh with flames come out his three drones on his bagpipes. They must be playing the same tune, hot music? Well captured, Graham, and nicely presented.

The way the face is hidden - it immediately reminded me of Magritte's green tomato. Pure surrealism. And the angle is the photographer's choice... Smile

Is he somebody's old flame, discarded like a moth-eaten old cardigan?

Given the crowds generally and not least the tight cluster of bemused and amused admirers he was attracting this was the only angle I could get! Mind you, I must admit to be being pleased with the effect!. 🤣 Thanks for the Magritte link ... that hadn't occurred to me! 😀
Many thanks for the gong ... oh happy day! ... will PM later.

His 'beaconicity' (yes, they did use that word. Send them to the Tower, say I) shines out!

It was in the era of banning the term 'brainstorm' - on the grounds that it might be upsetting for people with mental issues.

Sometimes, people set themselves up for being rubbished. (That's a throwaway line...)

Extreme heartburn one suggests. Great point of view and capture and one stuffed with hundreds of possible narratives or one-liners.

Had me confused there for a while. He has a very unusual barbeque but for
the life of me I couldn't see any Bacon. Blush
All is well now though, I re-read the title.
Old faithful and his gas powered youphoneyermon.

He will have lots of bookings to play in the front rooms of the land, come November when we are all freezing to high heaven......

I can see a profile of a face in that brass instrument, actually there is two if you invert it, either way they are both looking a bit miserable.

Lolling in a hospital bed is probably not the
best place to view this. Far too much gas ⛽️ around.
