Beans and Bottles

By chase
Normal service resumed...it's a nice dark one Wink

Taken in my garage, lit by controlled daylight.
3 frames combined in Lightroom, faffed with in Photoshop.
The lovely bottles were right at the bottom of a storage box, about time they came out for an airing.
There are no Bile Beans in the little tin, just an old sixpence.

Thanks for getting this far.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.
Janet xx

You always inspire me to have a go at a still life Janet - the sign of a good photo! Also a respect because when you try it, you realise how difficult it all is! Maybe that is why I am always loathe to critique other people's images. Not keen on focussing on the minutiae, much more of 'the whole is greater than the sum of its parts' person!

Lovely arrangement, if a little morbid. The bile beans obvious disagreed with the bird Wink
Love the smoke.

Funny to read the ailments for which Bile Beans are recommended; one in particular stands out, Female Weakness..... wow.

This is what I found on Wiki......
Bile Beans was a laxative and tonic first marketed in the 1890s. The product supposedly contained substances extracted from a hitherto unknown vegetable source by a fictitious chemist known as Charles Forde. In the early years Bile Beans were marketed as "Charles Forde's Bile Beans for Biliousness", and sales relied heavily on newspaper advertisements. Among other cure-all claims, Bile Beans promised to "disperse unwanted fat" and "purify and enrich the blood".
The "unknown vegetable source" worries me a tad Wink

Hmmmmmmm....female weakness ? that's a new one on me Willie and a hard ailment to diagnose I guess.

Hence the smoke Wink Wink

Thanks for bothering with my Bile Beans everyone.
Kath, wonderful to have your UA, many thanks.
Thank you for the mod Nathan, of course I approve, always good to see how someone else would see images.

The York Bile Beans sign is iconic. Maybe we should all be trying them... Wink

Seems they are a cure-all Moira. I don't think I will be trying them any time soon. Although sorting all that lot out, they have to be worth 3Bob of anyones money Wink

Intriguing dark image, Janet, you are so good at these and skilful with the processing . Curious 1960s chemistry book behind the Victorian Bile Beans. Magic and mystery, and stomach pills 😀 Wonderful 👍

Thanks for noticing though, it is very much part of the image.
