Beara Bowl Storm

By PhilNewberry
I haven't posted here or anywhere else for that matter for over year now but have recently had the opportunity and motivation to return to post-processing. This was the second image I processed since deciding I was ready to get back in the saddle after something of a hiatus.

Following a workshop exploring the Copper Coast in Ireland back in 2015, we drove West to the Beara Peninsula hoping for an atmospheric long exposure image of this interesting rock formation. Unfortunately, a storm was raging that day and there was absolutely no chance of getting anything sharp during a long exposure or keeping the rain off the filters.
I remember the three of us dashing in and out of the car every time there was the slightest drop in wind or rain, hurriedly planting our tripods on the side of the road and grabbing what we could, getting completely soaked in the process and dashing back to the car once more.

I always felt there was one shot worth processing though and sure enough, after going back to my collection after so many years, this came to life. I deliberately chose to keep with the muted colours rather than a full black and white conversion as I think it provides a better sense of how it was to be there that day.

Station wagon rear doors provide fairly good protection from rain. Engine switched off, two legs out, one leg on boot floor and you can sit next to your very kept dry camera 😀 Good luck.
