I think you have done a fine job in presenting the horse in this way......a very good idea and very nicely and creatively presented, Rick. I like it a lot.

Looks more realistic if you place a shadow under the foal. I have loaded mod1 as a reference. If you spend more time at it you can get an even better shadow. This is done with a new empty layer, draw an ellipse. fill with black, feather the selection, add Gaussian blur, and reduce opacity as desired.

However, it may well be better not to use white, and go for black, as in mod2, - its more dramatic. and you dont worry about shadows.

ah excellent yes, I was going to use a black background at first but thought I would loose the detail in the mane. After seeing your version I with a had carried on.
I do like the idea of the shadow though and will see if i can create a better shadow although i'm not sure how successful i will be ;P
Thank you

I had doubts about the shadow comment until I looked at the mod, and it works well. Not sure about the black background though. Think white or a light grey/cream would work.

I wonder what Beau looks like now, Richard. I think you have been very successful with your OOF and I particularly like the fact that one of the back hoofs is behind the frame, giving a strong feeling of "jumping out". I tend to agree with Paul about a touch of colour in the background, and I do like Willie's shadow.

Thank you all so much for you comments and ideas. I respect each and every comment and take them on board for future images. I am going to try to improve this image by adding a subtle background colour and shadow. Not sure when as I do work long hours but I will post the result If I achieve anything like I now have pictured thanks to all you comments.

I have posted a variation now this the background colour change and shadow although I'm not sure how convincing it is. As I have placed the shadow behind him I have brightened up his face as I think the light would have to fall on that side of him and fairly high up to create a shadow something like what I have tried to achieve.

Thank you

I like this image a lot and I think it should set a few peoples minds in motion. The way you have put the frame at an angle works well. What would it look like if you shot a view of stable doors at an angle and used that as your background?
Well done,
