Beautiful Creature

By ChiliMan
Moira, you mentioned that you’ve never given an UA to a macro insect shot before. I can’t believe you gave it to yesterday’s upload. Thank you SO much. I am one stunned mullet Grin

Now then, people…this here has to be one of THE most beautiful insects I have ever seen.

I was in a carpark today and went to look at a tree with some lovely bark. All cracked and curling and whatnot. When I saw this beaut. Could not…believe…my eyes. I mean, look at the colours!! Sheesh. Pretty big too – about 3.5 to 4cm, I reckon.

I managed to get two shots before it flew off. Neither of them razor sharp ‘cos I couldn’t keep my hands stock still. Probably from the excitement of finding this gorgeous creature.

I’ve tried bringing out some definition and detail but hope I haven’t overdone it. Anyway, the main thing is I get to share this gem of nature with you all.

Don’t know if it’s a fly or a wasp. I’m thinking more along the lines of a wasp. But I don't know too much about insects.

Whatever it is, WOW, am I right?? So pleased to have met it.

A Smile

ADDENDUM: Dave (WhiteRose1) has identified this critter. It is an EMERALD COCKROACH WASP. Ta, Dave SmileSmile

Gareth, I'd never heard of the Dorset Naga! I just saw the vid and it looks EXACTLY like the two my mum acquired recently. That guy in the vid is some hardcore chilli eater. He popped the whole thing in this mouth! And he's not sweating, he's not sucking in air to cool the tongue and he's not red-faced...respect Smile I reckon I'd be on the floor unconscious in 2 minutes if I did Grin

On the other hand, he test tastes chillies, so he must have a very strong constitution.

Look forward to your reply come the time you taste one.

i think I'm going to buy some just to catch people out with Tongue

I'm gonna plant the seeds and it will be interesting if it takes off and blooms and fruits! If it does, I will try a TINY piece of the fruit first Grin

Thanks for the info on the growers, by the way!

I love those colours, and what long antenna it has.
Excellent find Andrew and beautifully captured and well deserved UA.
You're right about bird chillies being the best. I birds are clever and always chose the best food to eat!

Holy cow! This is you so much for your wonderful UA, Yung Smile

Yeah...bird chillies are awesome. I've always called 'em "chilli padi" (the Malay name for them - or technically 'cili padi' but pronounced the same) and only much later did I find out they're called bird chillies.

Mick, I've seen Cheryl Cole just out the shower. But she didn't have any of these colours on her. So out she went...*boot*. Although maybe the bodypaint washed off in the shower. Hmm. Bah...shouldn't have been so hasty...

What a stunner and what a great macro shot. You have some great craftsman over there. In your place I'd be taking this to a jeweller and asking said jeweller to make a line of jewels based on this.

Certainly unusual and extremely colourful Andrew, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder I guess, afraid I'm not into considering any insect beautiful, well I'll except butterflies from that remark, as to clarity, if this was taken with shaking hands, you should take all of your shots that way!
