Nicely constructed and shot. Simplicity is the key, and my only minor criticism is I think it needs to be brighter. Maybe a result of the tone, but I'd like to see a pure white background, easily adjusted in processing, but a little more exposure would have done the trick at the taking stage. The flash was probably fooled by the predominance of white in the picture.
It would also be better using a much lower ISO, which would entail a much longer shutter speed and probably the use of a tripod. Otherwise pretty good.

I've done a mod - brighter, as everyone has said, and cropped a little at the top and on the left - it looks more balanced that way.
The high ISO and wide aperture haven't had much adverse effect on the shot - though I'd prefer to see a little more sharpness back to front, and if I was shooting this, I'd go for more light, or a tripod and a much longer exposure to allow (say) f/11 and ISO 200.

Hi
I shall object the composition, the framing and the number of objects in the frame.
One object is offered for studying.
Two for contrast or contrast.
Three for repetition.
Repetition requires presenting a Pattern.
Here we don't have a strong pattern in regards to the placing of the objects in the frame.
If it is an attempt to look for a triangle... try again.
Where is the pencil? Bring it in. Display it as it comes sharper through the spiral wooden skin leaving ONE scrapping behind it.
Examine how the spiral scrappings hang from the pencil, put the pencil stand in the sharpener upside down, with its point looking upwards and it's bottom in a metal razor sharpener, in a pice of plasteline. Pile up the scrappings in a way the pencil and them look like a pine tree. (Attach them with a bit of selotape hiding behind the pencil). Shoot this vertically. Black and white is optional.
Try two scrappings on a diagonal positioning on a square frame, make them look like the number two does on a die.
Never stop imagining.
