Bede houses, Tattershall

By termite53
Saturday Shadow....These are the Bede houses next to the church, the shadow is from the steeple. These date back to 1440 and actually predate the current church
A Bede house was a type of Almshouse, typically run by the church and house the poor of the village who were allowed to live there in return for doing manual work and attending church regularly . They were also given a weekly or monthly allowance of food and fuel. Up to the early 1800's, a parish was responsible for looking after it's poor. Bede is an old English or Saxon word for 'priest'

There were originally 10 dwelling here, there are now 5. The houses were remodelled in the 17th Century and again in 19th and 20th Centuries

An interesting and informative foreword supported by a very well composed and photographed image with the added bonus of a well defined shadow.

Looks as if they would be a fine accompaniment perhaps to the Castle. Would not mind living there.GrinGrinGrin

They are within a stones throw Ron, a lovely setting, it was one of the few sunny moments we had on our visit, we actually on our way back to the car.
Lovely composition with great light and shadow. Well done Tony.
