Bee Rescue & Bonny Blooms

By LynneJoyce
The first three images feature the Bumble Bee I rescued in Hirst Woods. To explain, as soon as the bees come out I carry a small pot of honey (purloined from hotels) and a cotton bud stick with the cotton buds cut off in order to rescue Bees that have become torpid in a cold or rainy snap. Left unaided they die but if you give them a few drops of honey it gives them enough energy to get back to the nest. Anyway I saw said Bee and a gentle prod proved that it had run out of energy so I administered the honey. It fell to the ground so I administered more honey which it sucked up. On my next circuit of the woods it had gone so hopefully it had returned home.

The rest of the images, also taken in Hirst Woods should speak for themselves and go to prove that Hirst Woods is a gift that never stops giving.

Thank you for viewing and I hope that you enjoy at least some of these images.

Your first and last, my favourites, Lynne. Very nicely presented as always.
And yes, we've seen many bumble bees on the ground struggling to survive and did our best to save them last summer.
We also saw a bumble bee literally, pick a stationary one off the ground and fly off with it. Never seen that before and doubt we will again.

Good to hear about your bee rescuing job! Giving them sugar is reckoned to resuscitate them too 😃👍 A fine collection here, Lynne, I especially like the colourful Foxglove ones 😃
