Bees at Blackburne House

By lesley_focus
Hope Street Honey is a project at Blackburne House in Liverpool. We installed one hive on the roof in June 2010 and we saw the Queen (marked blue) when we opened the hive. This picture shows the cells where she is laying her eggs, and thanks to the good offices of the WI Beekeepers it was a fun experience getting so close to our bees. The queen is a Black British bee, which have a reputation for not being as docile as some bees, but deal better with hard winters.
