Beesands, South Devon, no fishing today...

By hrsimages
From a recent one week walk along a section of the U.K.'s 600+ mile South West Coast Footpath. Beesands is a coastal fishing village in S Devon. During gales in 1917 the close neighbouring village of Hallsands was washed into the sea, a disaster which occurred due to commercial dredging work which removed a protective shingle bank lying offshore. The dredging work commenced without consulting local villagers.
There was a near gale blowing when we walked along this stretch of coast and with waves crashing over the sea wall. It wasn't hard to see how the constant pounding of the sea along this coast is a real factor to be reckoned with by the people who live here.

Great shot - especially the spray against the ominous sky. Peter
