Belle Tout Lighthouse hotel.

By mike9005
Thanks to Isabel (Chinga) for your award. Thanks to everyone for your C&Vs for yesterday.
On Friday last, I managed to get to Birling Gap for the first time since Covid 19 came to this world. A few months ago the cliff collapsed, taking away one of the paths near to the old Belle Tout lighthouse hotel. I had only seen this by local TV, news drone coverage and thought I would inspect the damage for myself. Due to the lay of the land, it proved difficult to capture the far side, but if you enlarge you will just be able to make out the path leading away from the break on the far side. The hotel has already been moved back once before and today it is still in use. No one was injured when it collapsed, probably due to it occurring during the night.
The version is in colour.

One can quite clearly see another crack in the chalk so I doubt that section will last another Winter.

If you are ever over that way Splash Point at Seaford Head ( free car parking ) is another good spot to capture coastal erosion

Two excellent versions, Mike.
I remember this light house being moved back from the cliff edge a few years ago.
Looks like another move will soon be needed - the power of Mother Nature!!

Stunning work Mike! I am acrophobic and your gorgeous cliffs are my worst nightmare to be a top of! Your angle in this image is so good it unsettles me! I'll pass you an award but I'll give it you when your back down on the beach!

Looks like they may have to be moving it back again before too long 😲 Photographed this magnificent lighthouse back in 2017 whilst on holiday to Eastbourne. Had a quickie break stopping off here on a coach outing but didn't get as close as this. Rather favouring colour, but works well in mono too 😃👍🏻

Not sure if I would like to stay in this hotel, or is there a lot more holding it up? Good capture, Mike. There looks like another crack appearing on the other side of the hole.

B&W for me, sometimes such a busy sky with all those contrails can ruin a shot.
But in this case, I think it adds to it!

What a disaster …. Glad no one was hurt .Are those all jet streams in the sky ? Mono for me too …like how the chalk lights up in the mono and sky trails are accentuated . Stellar capture Mike,
Cheers
