Ben Page. Pro windsurfer at Praa Sands.

By Hedoman
Heavily cropped to get the close up so probably losing a bit in quality. But I do like just the subject not acres of boring sea and sky.

Can you upload the original file, cropped but not edited? The dodging has been done with a rather heavy touch, I feel...

Reducing opacity and using multiple passes is one approach to this, and doing some global adjustment of tones with Levels is another avenue to explore.

The content and position of the wind surfer is much better in this one and the board looks quite sharp. You are on manual and this is heavily under exposed as indicated in water colour and heavy shadow areas. A quick look at your LCD at the time should tell you this.

The result needs lightening overall, not just on the figure and board. Your attempt to lighten the figure is very visible and needs to be more subtle.

You can upload the original as a modification, you don't have to wait.

Manual is fine to use especially if the light isn't constantly changing but you need to meter off a mid-tone in the same light as the subject. Grass is very good but I guess hard to come by here, so some shoreline rocks would be ok. In any case, take a test shot or two before the action, check the histogram and adjust settings if necessary.

Uploading the original will also give us the opportunity to suggest alternative crops.
