Between the Shoot

By TrevBatWCC
On several of my holidays to Whitby, I've taken the steam train on the NYMR to Goathland in the middle of the North Yorkshire Moors.
It's famous for its railway station being Hogsmead Station in the first Harry Potter film, but more famously, for those who don't know, it was the location of Aidensfield in the TV police drama series 'Heartbeat', set in the 1960's, from 1992 - 2010. The Goathland Hotel was the Aidensfield Arms, with Scripps Garage and Funeral Services (now a gift and confectionery shop) directly opposite across the road. Just ľ mile down the road are the shops where the Aidensfield Post Office & Aidensfield Stores face onto the village green. Though the TV program finished 10 years ago, Goathland still attracts many visitors, and the Aidensfield name is still displayed on the buildings.
Filming could often be seen there, as here on my visit on 24/06/2008. Between shooting, the actors were happy to pose with onlookers to chat or be photographed with them.
The lead shows Scripps the garage owner chatting with a lady in a wheelchair, David the handyman posing for photos with fans in V1, and David with barmaid Gina stood outside the bar entrance of the Aidensfield Arms in V5.
You don't realise whilst watching the program (repeats of which are still being shown) just how many onlookers there are gathered around whilst filming was taking place. The last version shows just a few of them standing in front of the Aidensfield Arms.

Many thanks to Sandra (number9), Geoff (simmo73), Richard (estonian), Sylvia (Silviwhalley), Joan (EMJAYCEE), Dave (HobbitDave), Lillian, Graham (Ericsamson) and Phil (Philpot) for their User Awards on my previous upload, Sunflower Art , most appreciated 🏆👍

Jpeg images tweaked in Nik Collection's plugins and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 😀👍

Great set Trev. I enjoyed reading your story about it too. Not a place I have been. About 100 years ago, when I was about 17, there was a really cheap coach trip going up there from Devon with a local firm. We did the Granada studios tour and stayed in Manchester. Then went on to Holmfirth, where last of the summer wine was shot. I went with my friend.

A lovely series, I did watch a few of the Heartbeat series and remember it well. We also have spent time at Goatland and on the train, it's a great walk from Grosmont back to Goatland having caught the train one way. The last time we were there the garage was still there.

A great set Trev!
I still watch Heartbeat occasionally, very nostalgic programme.
We often visit when in the Whitby area Grin
As Ian has already commented I think the girl in V5 is actually Gina's Niece or Sister ....she also played Candice in Coronation Street.....we watched the episode not long ago .

What fun it must have been to witness this between takes time, and you have captured some well known faces. Heartbeat was a series which I so much enjoyed and could happily watch all the episodes again.
