Between the wires

By SteveMoulding
These two are again from Auschwitz (v1) and Birkenau (v2). The first showing the accommodation blocks and the second the railway lines that bought in the prisoners.
They were taken back in 2008 on a visit to Krakow in Poland. We visited the infamous concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau, known as Auschwitz 2. What struck me most was the silence, not a single birdsong could be heard at all, at either site. There was a complete sense of cold and foreboding around every corner.
I will make these the last from Auschwitz as I don't want to bore you any further.
Many thanks for all the votes and comments on my last uploads.
Have a great weekend.
Steve.

Bore us? No way. Among all the pretty flower and sunset photos, we need to remember the harsher aspects of reality and these photos really do that.
I saw one of the boxcars in the Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, FL, and it was awful to stand next to it and think about the people who once were crammed into it and that was their last time on earth.

Two very intense images, I can't imagine how it must have felt to arrive at these camps, and the uncertain future that lay ahead. No one could ever be bored with images like these.

You have caught the atmosphere so well - such an air of despair and evil. Two strong, thought provoking images.

Hugh mentioned intense and that fits v1 very well - its also quite claustrophobic, which I'm is most people felt there - constantly crammed into trucks, and rooms
v2 speaks more of desolation and hopelessness to me.
Two very powerful images

Excellent control, pin sharp, but more importantly evocative of the place. Great stuff.
