NOTE - V1 has dust bunnies, V3 is the same shot with them removed, if you can see fit not to look at them on 1, please do, and no need to mention them now Mark's kindly let me know Smile

I've never really got up to these monsters before - always been a nice 1/4 mile away, so tonight I came off a junction earlier and got up close to them

They are emense it has to be said - and when you get close up, a 17mm on a 5D struggles like buggery to get more than one in, and that's distorted as hell.

So here I decided to convey the size of the close one in a different way - have it looming over the left hand side of the frame, just a hint of it being there, then have a cluster of other ones looking "normal" in the distance

add to that some nice steam, all soft from 30 seconds of movement, and lots of contrast of course, and you get this shot.

thought about burning the lower bits out, they're light as I was using grad filters, but ended up leaving the crash barrier and road in there as I really like it Smile

I have almost this same shot i think. is this taken up the road next to company coaches and the waggies scrap yard with the security gate near the end? This works very well IMHO.

Awesome stuff make gritty Yorkshire look good. I like the softness of the steam and the colouring you have used.

As its a long exposure was it taken in the dark??
Shona says to tell you she likes it as well Smile

The right thing to keep barriers and road in. These are amazing structures and dwarf everything.

yeah - that's the road Dan - just parked up next to the old bridge and had a walk to the foot of the turbines and up that road.

Very different ball game to the others I've done - impossible to avoid distortion if you try and get a whole one in that's close.

Was about 8:30 Julie, dusk, but I put 5 stops of grad over the sky to get more time for the cloud to smooth.

I've been up close and personal to Drax and Eggborough, but not this one Mark - and yes, the toning was very Kenna - the original was a bit blue and pink - I'll put it in the versions

Ade, you should have a link in the photo information box (right of the title) to 'Manage Versions' this should allow you to move them around.

Cracking work, dust bunnies and all Wink

p.s. you still missed a dust bunny on V3... right side of middle tower, just above where it meets the other tower!

It works really well with the road, barrier and lamps left in. It would be a much lesser shot without them. They kreep you from just glancing over the shot and moving straight on to the next shot.

I took some of these last year - not as good as your number one. Did you know part of the edifice was build by an old grave yard - imagine you do? Knowing that has added to my sense of the poignancy of the place.
