Big Spring Mailboxes

By taggart
Big Spring Mailboxes

The Big Spring Creek originates -- seeps out from some rocks--- and travels 7 miles to the Conodoguinet Creek. It is a beautiful shallow creek famous for trout fishing, ( One British General brought a part of his army here some 300 years ago--to guard him from the (American) indians while he fished.) AT this point the creek spreads out into a small lake and then tumbles over a man made waterfall-- some thru a water wheel formerly used to grind grain.

As you can see, there are some lovely homes along the lake--- but the mail man will only drive so far to deliver. Thus-- and typical--- a rack of mail boxes!

Jenn,
This is a wonderful representation of rural PA in the autumn.
Thanks for including your fascinating commentary -- placing this in historic context.

A lovely autumn scene, Jenn, but these mail boxes look sort of vulnerable stuck out there: they make a very different sort of f/g detail to most such images.

a fine composition. bet the different character of the mailboxes expresses well the characters of their owners.

Americana! Just wonderful to view Jenn - we have something similar in Jonah (a small town east of us), but all the boxes are the same - these are much more enjoyable.

@Ronnie--- it is a heafty fine should one tamper with the mail----

Also these are not on a main road! They are located here just off a dirt track so the mail person can fill them from his car and turn around!

What a lovely image of your locale.
Yes I thought like Ronnie that anybody could lift the mail boxes!
The mixed colours look so good with autumn trees and leaves.

Not a scene you would see in the UK with your unique mails boxes. A fine and informative composition.

From neat and tidy to a rusty hunk, what a variety of mailboxes providing that foreground interest. Thank you for the background information too!

Surreal! Laid out so neatly in a row. I like the fact each box has its own personality.
A very attractive record of social history.

@Chinga--- the box at the very left is for newspaper-- It is NOT an official USMAIL box and the mail carrier does NOT use it--- A paper delivery person will slip the newspaper in the box--- It would haave been supplied by whatever paper is delivered there---

There's so much variation in your work and choice of subject matter. It also seems that the lighting is very condusive to capturing excellent pictures, as always.

I love these mailboxes. We don't have them over here but they're so pretty. Easy to break into though or steal I would have thought.
