This is the view from the tower above the railway entrance to Birkenau.

On the left are some of the brick buildings that were not destroyed prior to the Russians liberating the camp. On the right the only remains of the the wooden buildings is the chimney stacks.

In the center the tracks split into three. This is where the inmates were off loaded from the crammed trains which had travelled from all over occupied Europe.

A very emotive photograph, a very simple photograph but your explanation tells the story so well. The simple black border adds to the effect.
