I took this image to try and capture the scale of the Birkenau (Auschwitz 2) death camp.

Where I was standing was halfway between the entrance to the camp and the crematoriums looking to the right. As you can see from where I was standing you could not make out the edge of the camp.

On far sides of the barbed wire fences there are a few remnants of the chimneys that were in the wooden barracks. The barracks themselves were burnt down by the germans before they fled.

Thanks for looking

You've certainly got a desolate look here, and the perspective does hint at the scale. You can bump up the contrast on this which would help with the starkness. A simple plain white border or line would be best, so as to concentrate viewers attention on the image content.

Whilst no image can ever truly capture the dark atmosphere and the horror you feel when you visit this site I think your shot goes some way towards it. I visited Birkenau some years ago and the the feelings I had while I was there come back looking at this image.
You can almost look into the photo and feel that you have just stepped into the 1940s.
I prefer the B+W versions. Well shot.

It is harder to get the sense of desolation in colour somehow. Moving shot.
