Great shot of this infamous camp ( for all the worst reasons ). Its difficult not to feel hate when you walk (as I have ) through those gates.

This image is powerful because we know what happened here. It reminds us of man's inhumanity and the scene epitomizes tyranny. It reminds us that, The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men (and women) to do nothing. Still, I worry that the message dims as time advances. The allure of the "strong leader" who can solve problems is still enticing these days.

Thank you all for your kind words, we'd a 4 day holiday in Krakow a first for me in Poland what a beautiful city and surrounding area did the usual trips down into the Salt Mines 800 steps down phew my little legs thank goodness there a lift back up and thats a ordeal also they cram 9 people into doesn't matter what size of people 9 are going in no matter what, as for Auschwitz/Birkenau wasn't sure what to expect actually and how I'd feel its a very sobering place with a distinctive atmosphere and shocked how big area it takes up, theres Auschwitz and then about 5 mile away Birkenau, so you do need a full days to visit and take it all in, we went on organised coach trip from Krakow which his still about hour and half away personally I think best way to go, at the entrance your put with a guide which speaks your language our young girl was in her first year guiding here she was absoulty keyed up on every detail and a credit to the job, so if your thinking of going to Krakow amazing food and easy transport facilites your can't go wrong, I'm certainly going back. Peter
