Black, White & Grey

By Andysnapper

Sorry to remind everyone of the cold but this one was taken in the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh over Easter. I felt it would work as a mono due to the lack of colour.

Cheers and thanks for yesterdays v's and c's.

Yes it works well Andy the composition is great with that little stream leading us in to the rolling hills. A good conversion that emanates the chill!

It gives a cooling effect as we are experiencing 44 degree celsius here in Rourkela.

A lovely balanced, square composition, Andy. It may be intentional on your part but the snow does look a bit too grey.

Yes Dave you are correct, I'm not sure why as when I view the original in PS11 it looks white but as soon as I loaded it on here it went a bit grey.

A beautiful wintery undulating vista with heaps of charm and interest. Very well suited to monochrome, whilst your chose aperture has ensured both clarity and quality in depth.

Easy solved in PSE 11. Open the levels layer for the image and select a white snow patch as a white balance point this will whiten the snow and darken the balck areas, then adjust levels to reajaust mid tones to suit the desired effect.
