Black and Tan

Another from my morning at Martin mere WWT in Lancashire.
Haven't a clue what this one is but if someone can tell me I will update the desciption......just looks like a good hair day to me!

EDIT- I have been reliably informed that this is a hooded merganser by Ron...thank you!

Great portrait of a duck , dont know which one. But , I think a lighter frame ( says she who can't frame photos yet! ) would help.
Clicked anyway. Thankyou.

Lovely colours and detail i like the ripples and reflection upon the water, although i do think with a lighter frame it would stand out more just my opinion though

Disagree - the dark frame emphasises the beautiful light on the feathers. Like the crop and presentation. click

I like the sombre effect on this as I did on your previous shot, Gilly. It what makes it stand out both on the thumbnail and in the large version - which is worth a look for the terrific detail. I'll add the 100-400L to the list of lenses I will yearn for and probably never own. Well done again.

For me, the framing's perfect, as it brings the eyes straight into the image. Yet again, you've produced some really fine detail.

I am not renowned for my recognition skills but is this perhaps a Merganser? Whatever it may be its a super shot full of fine detail.

I like the dark framing Gill it serves to show off the subject in all his detailed glory.I don't think it would work with everything but here it draws me straight to that pretty duck on the dark water.

Unique, not the "normal" type of duck image, but I think it's stunning, such detail and "depth" to the tones, just love what you've done, the format, the crop and everything.
