Black Swallowtail--the Caterpillar

By taggart
Black Swallowtail--the Caterpillar

--Leading: the egg --The Black swallowtail placed a number of eggs---each neatly on a rue leaf. They are perhaps the size of a pencil dot!
Version 1: a very newly hatched caterpillar---and the remains of her egg in the bg
Version 2: a few days later---She eats and grows---

I fear my equipment is not really up to this task--wishing for a more powerful lens-- and LOTS less breeze!

Thanks for your interest for my previous post--- precluding the end of this story---

Interesting set. Jenn. We came across the caterpillar of an Elephant Hawk-Moth recently - black - big eyes, or what appeared to be - sectioned body - large mouth with visible teeth - about 4" long. We were amazed and had no idea what we were looking at, until we did some searching. We had no idea there were such large caterpillars in the UK. Sadly no pics - could not get an angle on it and poor light - all duds.
