I think it must be a Jackdaw. It's a fabulous picture and he does look you in the eye somewhat!

Very wise not naming it Phil. I did on a recent upload and didn't realise there were so many types of crow !! It looks sharp enough from here and I like the eye contact.

Great. The black on black look combined with the direct stare gives this bird great dignity, as does the way the frame is filled with just the head and shoulders.

It's not a robin, bluetit, sparrow, chaffinch, goldfinch, wren, chicken or pigeon. Does that help?

Could be sharper, but the colour and texture compensate for that. You should have asked him to stand more still.
