Blast from the Past

By GGAB
NC33611
was formerly a USAF VIP Transport but was sold to CBS corporation as their corporate airplane. She subsequently flew air tours of the Grand Canyon, familiarization flights with the Experimental Aircraft Association, and then spent the last part of her career flying for ERA Alaska Airlines out of Anchorage, AK. After being retired as the last passenger carrying airline DC-3 in the United States, she spent five years awaiting a new home before being purchased by Robert S. Randazzo and PMDG Flight Operations. She completed a two year long restoration in 2013 that included a full mechanical refit, two new engines and fresh paint in the 1945 colors of Pan American World Airways. She carries the registration number NC33611, a number that was originally applied to one of PAA's early DC-3 in 1941 and bears the name Clipper Tabitha May. PAA's colors were chosen to honor Captain Larry Hunsberger, who began his career with PAA in 1955, ultimately retiring from United Airlines in 1997.

This DC3 was on display during a charity Plane Pull at Washington Dulles Airport. The plane is on permanent display at the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum in Virginia.

Thank you for your votes.
The image indicates an item from our past, however I thought the back story of how it got here was interesting.
This is also an image from my past, taken shortly after I started taking pictures.
Unlike most on this site, I didn't start taking pictures until 2013/2014.
